Happy Monday Everyone!!!  As we have all headed back to school, or a majority of us, I have partnered with Abigail Bennett to give you all details on how to build a capsule wardrobe.  This look is your quintessential  capsule wardrobe with your perfect basics to wear for a lifetime.

I hope you all have a great one, as I am counting down the days till Saturday when UH goes against OU at NRG Stadium here in Houston; hopefully we beat them like we did FSU at the bowl game. hahah 🙂

It’s amazing how many outfit combinations you can create with a set number of garments. But to make the most out of your capsule, you’ll need to understand the basics of building one. The original concept surrounded the idea of creating “a streamlined wardrobe of high-quality pieces that could be worn often and interchangeably, thereby saving money, closet space, and time,” as explained by Fashion Magazine’s Kelly Dougher.  Due to the climate, we’re allowed to update our compact wardrobe with seasonal items a few times a year, keeping in mind that we’re maintaining minimalism and not feeding into our shopping addiction.

The main goal is to select pieces that are considered essentials that can easily be mixed and matched with other items, so while that sparkly tank is a head turner during nights out, a button-up is a smarter, more versatile choice. The style experts at Lyst may have compiled a variety of tops for you to refresh your capsule wardrobe, but the classics and basics will never go out of style.

Since you’ll be saving more by cutting down on the impulse buys, you’ll have the money to invest in quality basics made from sturdy fabrics, rather than the cheaper alternatives from H&M and Forever 21, which tend to develop holes after several washes. Spend a little more on your tees and your blue jeans—the investment is worth it.

There are several ways to build a capsule wardrobe; some fashion bloggers have constructed theirs according to the original definition, and others have chosen to create capsule wardrobes for each season. It all depends on your location. A person living in a city that doesn’t see drastic temperature changes can easily adopt the 30 piece wardrobe with a couple of items added here and there throughout the year. However, someone who experiences all four seasons will probably put together four wardrobes, with several garments that can transition to each capsule collection. The blogger behind The Blissful Mind managed to find 10 essentials that can be adjusted according to the time of year, including an LBD, a blazer, black skirt, tanks, and long and short-sleeved tees.

Of course, basics will vary from person to person, as no two capsule wardrobes will look-alike. Go through your existing clothes and divide them into piles by frequency of use. The ones that you wear on a weekly basis are considered your essentials.

Capsule wardrobes are all about being practical, which is not something that a woman can necessarily be if she loves shopping for the latest trends. But style isn’t about the passing fads—it’s about being timeless, and building a capsule wardrobe is a perfect way to show off your personal style.
