Full Maternity Denim & Legging Review

Hi mamas!!! One of the hardest things to do when pregnant is finding denim and leggings that work best for you, your body and your constant growing bump.  The first time with Sofia I was completely clueless and wore two sets of jeans the entire time and I honestly wasn’t the biggest fan.  This time around I wanted to make sure that I not only had options, but that they were comfortable, wearable over and over and would grow with my bump.

One of the biggest things I learned as well was to always grab my size PRIOR TO BE PREGNANT.  I think the biggest misconception is that you should size up when you believe its time of the bump, and though I am sure that might be true for some, I think it is best to wear your normal size and go from their.  Through my entire pregnancy I have worn my normal 25/26 size and that has been the game changer.  My jeans fit so good, aren’t falling down constantly and I can still wear them for the first few weeks after I have baby boy.

So, now with all that being said let’s go into the details, fits and price points for my favorites and not so favorite pants during my pregnancy.

DENIM JEAN RUN DOWN

1. TARGET  MATERNITY CROSSOVER PANEL SKINNY JEANS- DARK WASH

Info: These pair of jeans were the game changer and the start of the Target jean obsession.

Description/ Fit: 71% Cotton, 27% Polyester, 2% Spandex denim & with a 90% Nylon & 10% Spandex belly band.  Super comfortable, stays in the same fit from purchase to wear and wash.  The belly band fits the belly perfectly in my opinion and grew with my belly from 20 weeks until now at 35 weeks.

Size: 0/25R

Price: $30

2. TARGET MATERNITY CROSSOVER PANEL JEGGINGS- MEDIUM WASH

Info: Second pair of Target jean purchase and love the lighter color.

Description/Fit: 71% Cotton, 27% Polyester, 2% Spandex denim & with a 90% Nylon & 10% Spandex belly band.  Super comfortable, stays in the same fit from purchase to wear and wash.  The belly band fits the belly perfectly in my opinion and grew with my belly from 20 weeks until now at 35 weeks.  Note: This is slightly more stretchier than the first pair I shared.

Size: 2/26R

Price: $30

3. TARGET MATERNITY INSERT PANEL JEGGINGS- DARK WASH

LINKING UN-DISTRESSED VERSION AS THIS IS SOLD OUT

Info: This pair is one of three under the belly side panel maternity jeans that I grabbed.  When it comes to a side panel I would suggest getting your smaller size fit so it will be easier to wear out and about.  Unlike the panel that keeps your pants us this will need a tight fit or a belt because you will constantly be pulling it up, which was not my favorite.

Description/Fit: 71% Cotton, 27% Polyester, 2% Spandex. Front pockets are not functional. Contains a front zipper and fly.

Size: 2/26R

Price: $30

4. TARGET MATERNITY DISTRESSED LEGGINGS- DARK WASH (Sold Out)

Info: Love this distressed dark wash pair of jeans and wear it constantly.

Description/Fit: 89% Cotton, 8% Polyester, 3% Spandex and fits like a glove. Stays in place, doesn’t over stretch and goes with so much in my closet.

Size: 2/26R

Price: $30

5. MADEWELL OVER THE BELLY SKINNY JEAN

Info: This was my FIRST PAIR OF MATERNITY JEANS.  I scoured the internet trying to see what everyone was loving and this was always in the top 3.  In comparison I would take the Target jeans any day and especially with the price.  I got these during Black Friday so I was less than half way through my pregnancy and the band was extremely big and goes straight into my bra, which I hated.  It fits better now at 35 weeks.  Also, I am 5’8 and I wish it was a little longer like my Target jeans.

Description/Fit: Premium 44% cotton/42% TENCEL™ lyocell/13% poly/1% elastane Orta denim. Front rise: 4 1/4″; inseam: 28 1/2″; leg opening for size 25: 10″.

Size: 26 but should have gotten a 25 since they run a size big

Price: $138

6. MADEWELL MATERNITY OVER THE BELLY SKINNY JEANS IN BLACK

Info: This was my first pair of black denim and the biggest issue I had was wishing I got a smaller size + the fact that the band was the WORST!!! It has these buttons on the back like its toddler pants to adjust, (which is a great concept) but it would bother me ALL THE TIME.  It rubs in your back and the belly band goes so high up that it would be in my bra and be uncomfortable.  Not a fan of that, but it was comfy in the jeans.

Description/Fit:  Premium 44% cotton/42% TENCEL™ Modal/13% poly/1% elastane Orta denim. Front rise: 5 1/2″; inseam: 28 1/2″; leg opening for size 25: 10″.

Size: 26 but should have done a 25 due to running a size large

Price: $138

7. 1822 DENIM ANKLE SKINNY MATERNITY JEANS

Info: I bought these while looking at the Nordstrom website and thought I would give them a chance mainly because I loved the faded grey wash and the price point.  I was highly impressed when I tried them on because they were extremely comfortable, super soft and the band was like a legging pull up and I LOVED that.  It made my growing bump happy.  The only thing I wish was that it was longer on the frayed hemmed since with my 5’8 I needed the extra length.

Description/Fit: 63% cotton, 35% polyester, 2% spandex + 28″ inseam; 10″ leg opening; 4 3/4″ front rise; 13 1/2″ back rise

Size: 26R

Price: $59

8. ASOS MATERNITY HIGH WAISTED RIPPED JEANS IN BLACK

Info: This was my second pair of under the bump jeans and I will say it is a little hard to get it on.  Since it is a low rise it really fits under the belly and it always takes me a second to get it up, but at least it stays up because I need it too. The distressed look also lets me edge up my look versus my Madewell pair.

Description/Fit: 6% Cotton, 20% Polyester, 11% Viscose, 3% Spandex, Trim: 96% Cotton, 4% Spandex

Size: 4

Price: On Sale for $36

9. ASOS MATERNITY HIGH WAISTED SKINNY JEANS IN WHITE

Info: This has a high waisted under the bump belly band and cute white pair of denim option.  I got my normal size 4, but only thing I don’t like is that it has a lot of rippling in the jeans and I like more of a straight feel to my jeans.

Description/Fit: 91% Cotton, 7% Polyester, 2% Spandex, Fabric 2: 93% Cotton, 7% Spandex.

Size: 4

Price:  $35

MATERNITY LEGGINGS ROUND UP

1.SPANX SEAMLESS LEGGINGS

Info: This is by far my FAVORITE pair of leggings the entire pregnancy.  Not only is it super comfortable, but it still keeps everything in while keeping the belly in it’s place through the growing up journey.  I also love that it is seamless so I can still wear crop tops, tie up my shirts and place over the bump and more.  An investment, but 100% worth it.

Description/Fit: 91% nylon, 9% spandex

Size: S (2-4)

Price: $78

2.SPANX FAUX LEATHER MATERNITY LEGGINGS

Info:  This pair of leggings was one of my favorites before pregnancy so I knew I wanted to get the maternity version as well.  This is a staple in so many people closets and an investment, but once you get it you will totally understand why.  It can be dressed up or down and the band is so great for any time of your pregnancy.  I have had these since 16-18 weeks and they are great.

Description/Fit: 27″ inseam; 8″ leg opening; 14 1/2″ front rise; 16″ back rise (size Medium) & made of Nylon/elastane/polyurethane

Size:  S (wish I got an XS)

Price: $110

3. ZELLA LIVE IN MATERNITY ANKLE LEGGINGS

Info: This was my second pair of leggings I got since I already owned two of these exact pair of leggings prior to being pregnant.  I got the Small but this is another example of wearing your pre-bump size because it is a little roomer than I would like and a XS would have been perfect.  These are my go to for working out and even just running around doing errands.  Definitely a great go-to pair of leggings.

Description/Fit: 88% polyester, 12% spandex & 27″ inseam; 8 1/2″ leg opening; 15″ front rise; 15 1/2″ back rise (size Medium)

Size: S (wish I got an XS which is my pre-pregnancy size)

Price: $65

4. ASOS MATERNITY OVER THE BUMP LEGGING

Info: First pair of leggings I got when I was only a few weeks pregnant and no one knew.  These are a great super soft leggings with lots of stretch and for the price it’s awesome.

Description/Fit: 46% Cotton, 46% Modal, 8% Spandex

Size: 4 (would go a size down since its got stretch)

Price: $19

  1. Where are the boot cut blue jeans? I’m looking for my daughter who needs these for her work in a plant. Not to mention I can’t stand wearing straight leg jeans as they dont feel right on my calfs even with the stretch material. They increase my leg cramp and my daughter doesn’t like that tightness on her calves also. We are both under 5’1″.

Why aren’t there more boot cut for pregnant women? Straight legs don’t look good on everyone let alone they don’t feel good either.

    1. Hi Kathy,

There are no boot cut jeans because I never wear them and personally do not like them. I am sure if you look at places like Target, Walmart, Motherhood Maternity they should have some options.
