When September hits in the Rojas household that typically means one thing…FOOTBALL SEASON!! If anyone knows us, they know we are huge college football fans, but specifically those from the University of Houston because Diego and I both graduated from there and are super proud alumni. Even though this 2020 season is nothing short of being ordinary we wanted to make it feel like it was in all ways possible.
We decided to put together a backyard tailgate for the kids and us and really go all out for this season since our home will be where we will be watching all the games for the next few months. When it comes to getting items to make it a full tailgating experience I always go to Academy Sports & Outdoors. I have been shopping with them since I was kid and will continue to do so for life. When it comes to creating a backyard tailgate there are a few things that you can consider to make it super fun, so here are 6 of my tips. 🙂
1. Outdoor Games- Since we aren’t able to go into the stadiums, have some fun games around your home and backyard and make it an experience. Nothing says tailgating more than some washers or jenga and a nice cold soda or lemonade in your hand.
2.Keep the Menu Simple– Anything that is easy to make and easy to eat is your best bet. This allows people to have some yummy food but doesn’t keep you in the kitchen when all the action is outside.
3.Your Team is your Theme- Get all your game gear out and decorate your home in your favorite colors. We of course went red and white and it was the absolute best our backyard has looked, plus it really makes it super fun and festive.
4.Fans– Get those closest to you and have so much fun!! Games are nothing without fans cheering them on and even if we can’t fill in the stadiums we can fill in the backyards.
5.Fuel the Fun- Make your tv set to the game and your speakers give you the sense that you are at the stadium yourself. This will make the whole ambiance 10x more fun!
6.Dress your Best- Put on your more stylish tailgating look and rep your team!! There is nothing more fun for me then when we used to go to games and see everyone decked out in their UH gear, so nothing will change for me even if it is in my own backyard.
